WARRANTY INFORMMATION
Your meter will be shipped Priority Mail with confirmation of delivery to the address you specify. If you are not delighted, you may return it anytime during the first seven days after reciept for a full refund - no questions asked!
In addition, your PSM-6 or PSM-37 comes with a ONE YEAR warranty on all parts with the exception of the meter movement and the battery package. If anything fails during that period, simply return the defective part and I will replace it FREE. If your meter fails to operate properly during the first year, you may return it for repair and you will NOT be charged for any defective parts. Our (cheap) bench labor rates will apply.
Call or email if you have any questions.
Recently, I attended a seminar during which preparation for eventualities including a widespread loss of power from utility companies was discussed in some detail. Suffice it to say I was impressed with all the options available to generate electricity "off-the-grid". They are as diverse as they are challenging and interesting.
Following the presentation of a particularly well informed individual, I approached with the question of how, with a non-functional digital multimeter fried by the same EMP that took out the power grid, we are to troubleshoot our electric generation equipment. I watched as the realization slowly dawned on him that his trusty Fluke or HP microprocessor controlled meter would simply no longer work.
Of couse, I took the opportunity to tell him that a PSM-6 had NO internal solid-state components and is completely "EMP Proof". He bought the one I had in my hand on the spot!
Now, whether or not you subscribe to the notion that life under these circumstances is possible, it certainly seems to be prudent to have on hand a device that will deliver accurate measurements of electrical activity in case other instruments are not available.
Measurement of AC and DC Voltages and Current with a PSM-6 can continue FOREVER! There is NO BATTERY involved in these measurements. Also, the heavy duty battery package I build to power the resistance measurement circuitry will conservatively provide 60,000 individual measurements. After that, you can exchange the battery with a spare in about 10 minutes.
Give me a call if you would like to discuss the advatages of having a "Mil Spec" analog multimeter in your "bug-out" kit.
Function & Range Switchs
For PSM-6 Vets:
The PSM-6 has two switchs mounted on the front panel. The left is known as the Function Switch - it controls the operation mode of the meter. Current, DC Voltage, AC Voltage or Resistance Functions are controled by this switch. You never have to move the leads if you want to change functions!
The switch on the right chooses the Range of measurement - from as little as 500 milivolts full scale up to 1000 Volts full scale. If you are measuring resistance this switch controls the multiplication factor of your reading from as little as 1 Ohm to several Meg Ohms.
The Center Knob controls the Ohms Zero function allowing very accurate resistance measurements on any chosen scale.
Other than a little piece of history and a conversation piece that will astound all your neighbors and friends, here is what is in the package:
1. AN/PSM-6 or AN/PSM-37 multimeter in fully functioning condition - all ranges of all functions. Guaranteed within the tolerances required by the DOD when the contract was let.
2. If you choose, verification of the actual test results (pictured to the right) for your specific meter by serial number.
3. Cases are cleaned and polished with steel wool. By request, PSM-6's can be painted in the color of your choice: Air Force Blue, Machine Grey, Black, or Grey Primer for you to complete. The cost is only $25.00
PSM-37 Multimeters are olive drab impregnated heavy duty plastic.
4. A new set of bayonet style meter leads - Some PSM-37 multimeters have mil-spec banana heavy duty test leads.
Every screw, flat washer and star washer in the PSM-6 meter has been fitted with a new stainless steel replacement.
Every rubber gasket has been inspected, cleaned and treated with rubber lubricant. This includes the meter face, each control knob, the case gasket and the "O" ring present on newer model PSM-6's. The battery case seal is similarly treated on PSM-37 meters
For demo purposes, here is a reconditioned PSM-37 measuring a 1K ohm resistor on the "times 100" scale. The needle is directly above the 10 - Exactly 1000 ohms! This was done to show my meters are fully operational not on just some functions, but on ALL functions.
